Art Put to the Test of Singularity
Art Practice as a Process of Singularisation of Society
For its fourth event at Paris City Hall, the Biennale de Paris, in partnership with IRISA, is organising a public presentation on singularity in art.
The event will take place on April 22, 2021, at 6 p.m. in the Xavier-Lacoste Room at Paris City Hall. It will explore singularity as a major issue for twenty-first-century society.
In contemporary society, we are compelled to think about the future independently of the systems that were meant to ensure the development of a humanity committed to embracing differences.
There is an urgent need for reflection that enables us to break free from dominant thinking and affirm singularity as the last resort for escaping the individualism responsible for making human beings increasingly uniform.
By inviting reflection on the recognition of singularities already at work within systems, IRISA is initiating a public discussion that seeks to connect societal issues with the dynamics of transformation at work in artistic practices.
Considered through the lens of singularity and in relation to other research disciplines, art offers an ideal framework for freely experimenting with new models of thought and action, each serving as a prototype for tomorrow’s society.
IRISA, the Biennale de Paris and their international partners aim to make singularity a central concern across all disciplines in order to rethink society—a prerequisite for its survival and evolution.
