The Biennale de Paris Invited to Genshagen: Rethinking Arts and Cultural Education in Europe
At the invitation of the Genshagen Foundation, the Biennale de Paris is invited to a working meeting of ENO (European Network of Observatories in the Field of Arts and Cultural Education), dedicated to cooperation and strategies for arts and cultural education in Europe. Bringing together participants from France, Germany, Poland and Lithuania, the meeting provides a forum for reflection on the relationships between research, artistic practices, education and cultural policy.
Organised in the spirit of the Weimar Triangle, which brings together France, Germany and Poland, the meeting aims to strengthen exchanges between European partners and prepare an ENO conference in Lithuania in 2027. The discussions will contribute to the development of recommendations for a European strategy for arts and cultural education. This initiative forms part of the preparations for Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, scheduled for the first half of 2027.
Questioning Models of Arts Education
For the Biennale de Paris, this invitation offers an opportunity to discuss a fundamental question: what kind of arts education becomes possible when art exists otherwise than in the form of artworks?
Invisual art shifts creation towards the conditions of existence, human relationships, the economy, ecology and institutions. This approach invites us to rethink what is taught, transmitted and explored in the name of art. It allows us to question educational models based on the production of artworks and to open research to other forms of action within society.
The meeting will also explore opportunities for cooperation between the Biennale de Paris, together with its school ENDA (École nationale d’art de Paris), and the ENO network, with a view to a potential French partnership.
Three Days of Exchange and Collective Work
According to the preliminary programme, discussions will focus in particular on the UNESCO Framework for Culture and Arts Education, the perspectives opened up by the Culture Compass for Europe, and preparations for the 2027 conference in Lithuania. Presentations, a hybrid panel discussion and working groups will provide opportunities to compare national experiences and formulate joint proposals.
The programme includes contributions from Roman Luckscheiter, Angelos Agalianos, Catherine Stilmant, Sara Brighenti, Agnė Liucilė Grickevičė, Susanne Keuchel and Tomasz Włodarski.
