Launch of Corrida Etica
For the first time in the history of world culture, an art form sets out and announces its theoretical and practical programme before being put into practice.
“In inventing Corrida Etica, I wanted to create a new bullfighting and artistic language for the twenty-first century, in which art transcends death.”
José Manrubia, artist, bullfighter and founder of Corrida Etica, May 2024.
Why Invent a New Form of Bullfighting for the Twenty-First Century?
The press conference will address this essential question. It will be followed by a question-and-answer session, allowing journalists and members of the public to engage with José Manrubia, Éric Monsinjon and Alexandre Gurita.
Corrida Etica is a new art form that offers an unprecedented approach to bullfighting, giving it an ethical dimension and an entirely artistic purpose. Conceived by José Manrubia, bullfighter and invisual artist, and Éric Monsinjon, art historian and philosopher, it revolutionises the tradition by committing neither to injure nor to kill the bull, whether in the arena or after the performance.
The project is supported by the Biennale de Paris and ENDA (École nationale d’art de Paris), both directed by invisual artist Alexandre Gurita.
A Manifesto as a Programme
During the launch evening, José Manrubia, Éric Monsinjon and Alexandre Gurita will offer a preview of the Corrida Etica Manifesto, published by Éditions Biennale de Paris in May 2024. Excerpts will be read during the press conference.
An initial print run limited to 100 copies has been produced especially for the occasion. Each journalist attending will receive a copy.
