International Doors Day
JIP (Journée internationale des portes — International Doors Day) is a universal event initiated by artist André Guiboux in 2022, organised autonomously and collectively each year around the summer solstice.
It encourages civic protest against the weight of objective reality and the rationalism of the world. It invites a broad reflection on human beings and their relationship with their living spaces. It seeks to question ownership, the housing crisis and rising rents and, by reversing the perspective, to open a discussion on social justice, individual rights, centralisation and economic development. Finally, it offers a thought for those who, in transition, are still searching for a place of their own.
JIP is an opening, a utopian and playful micro-shift that seeks to connect the subversive dimension with the inner dimension.
The aim is not merely a collective, participatory artistic action, but what it may become: a civic and universal gesture. An apotropaic action.
