No art school has provided an adequate response to the pandemic crisis. The disruption to teaching and the abandonment of students by their schools highlight the urgent need to invent new models of art schools and new approaches to teaching. Creative initiatives are emerging here and there, but remain disregarded by current policies.

The Biennale de Paris discussions invite participants from across society to exchange ideas about innovative educational projects and propose new relationships between art and its teaching.

In particular, the aim is to consider the art school as a place of emancipation within society, rather than a site of production subject to neoliberalism and unable to meet present and future challenges.

As part of its partnership with Paris City Hall, the Biennale de Paris seeks to address the following questions:

  • How can an innovative approach to art help reinvent the art school?
  • What approaches to art education can be developed through new content and creative methodologies?
  • What new models of art schools can operate in hostile environments and ensure continuity in teaching and learning?

This discussion will take a new approach to exploring the relationships between art, teaching and the school in the face of the challenges of contemporary society.
