Book Launch: “The Aesthetics of Invisual Art”
With Corina Chutaux Mila, author of the book, art historian Eric Monsinjon, and philosopher and artist Aurore Chevallier.
Invisual art is a form that foregrounds art without being encumbered by materiality or physical reality—in short, it dispenses with the very idea of the “artwork”. The book gives voice to this emerging concept: it traces the development of the idea of invisual art and invites reflection on what its aesthetics might mean once stripped of its tangible, visible… and speculative dimensions.
The author writes: “Invisual artists use ordinary objects in their practices without diverting them from their original nature to turn them into art objects. Invisual Art can encompass different artistic movements, disruptive strategies devised to challenge the art system itself, ways of life and, put simply, any attitude, activity or idea that reveals non-retinal—and therefore invisual—artistic qualities.”
Corina Chutaux Mila teaches art and literature at Sciences Po and computer science research at the Sorbonne. She is a doctoral candidate in comparative studies at Sorbonne Nouvelle University.
